Penguin Random House

As a temporarily-contracted community manager at Penguin Random House, I helped with engagement, copywriting, and social media strategy for our two children’s book brands, Underlined (Young Adult) and Random House Kids (children’s and middle grade). I worked with the channels Instagram (including Stories, Reels and Feed), Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube.

I managed a team of TikTok influencers, worked closely with authors on promoting their books as well as major launches and announcements, sought out and managed partnerships to promote book content, created and edited image and video content (sometimes on short notice and with tight deadlines), created and oversaw two separate social media editorial calendars three months in advance, and kept my finger on the pulse of the publishing, entertainment, and creative writing industry through social listening and trend alerts.

I used Canva to design our custom assets, worked with influencers on videos to promote our books, supported all authors (including high-profile celebrity authors), and worked closely with outside vendors on our photography.

Family of Liars Book Announcement

For the announcement of the bestselling prequel to We Were Liars (a BookTok sensation during the pandemic), we knew this was going to be a major announcement, so my scrappy team and I prepared months in advance. We prepped the author for social media, gathered assets and videos (and edited for social media), wrote social copy for each platform as well as the author, worked with our team of influencers to prep their content and videos for Instagram and TikTok, and scheduled posts ahead of time. On the day of, I made sure all content went out on time, worked closely with influencers on getting their videos out and tracking performance, I used social listening to track the conversation about the book across social media and the internet, and gathered any and all data I could on the performance of the social media posts and the conversations happening in the online communities. It was one of our biggest book announcements to date.

Instagram Stories

I designed and posted all of the Instagram Stories myself for both Underlined and Random House Kids, and developed branded templates for each series using Canva (and sometimes Photoshop).
